Nomadic Lifestyle with The Trithart Family
Gone are the days where we work 9-5, at the same company, for 40 years.
Couples, individuals and families all around the world are reinventing what life can look like for them and reprioritize what matters most. It might be travel, time together, or more space to think. The most fulfilled lives are the ones we are creating.
The Little Book of Big Dreams shows what life is like when we think our dreams are possible. May their stories encourage you to dream!

The Trithart’s are a family that live for road trips, music festivals and mother nature. You can usually find them on the beach in Florida, in the forest on Vancouver Island or forever driving between the two places, searching for the next magical place to call home!
From Jessica’s desk: This is my sister and her incredible family. Her zest for life, carefree heart and can do perspective shine through in every thing she does. I am lucky enough to stand by her side as they live out their wildest dreams. The fun, the hardships and everything in between.
You and Jex (her husband) traveled through Europe last summer with your two young boys (River and Sparrow). How did you guys decide to do this?
Both of Jex, my husband, and I, absolutely love traveling! When I was younger, I traveled around Europe and Jex, Australia. The year we began dating, we traveled to music festivals and concerts across the United States, followed by a destination wedding in Colorado and a honeymoon in Costa Rica. We ended up settling down on Vancouver Island, BC, and over the years, we took several cross country road trips that filled up our hearts and souls!
After years of living in Canada, our two older daughters were all grown up and we were ready for a change. We decided to sell our house. It sold within a week, and on a whim, we decided to travel around Europe for a couple of months with our two younger sons before setting down roots somewhere else.
There was something very wild and free about the idea of trekking across Europe with two little kids! The decision itself was spontaneous, but also easy and intuitive.
2. What made you go from just thinking about doing it to actually going for it? Had you always dreamed of this?
The timing was perfect. We are not big planners or overthinkers. We live in the moment and when an opportunity presents itself and feels right, we jump on it! Having already traveled a bit throughout North America, we knew our next adventure would take us overseas. We’d always dreamed of slowly and intentionally making our way through a handful of places, spending an extended time in each place to really settle in and live like the locals. We briefly entertained traveling to South America (my dream!) or Indonesia (his dream!), but ultimately settled on Europe. We ended up visiting France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. It was incredible! As an added bonus, we were able to cross paths with our oldest daughter, who had spontaneously planned her own solo trip to hike the famous El Camino Trail in Spain!
3. Was everyone always on board? Anyone need convincing?
We were all very excited! Our boys turned 5 and 7 during the trip, so they were old enough to help us do a bit of research and plan out our trip. We looked at lots of books and chatted about the places we would be exploring.
4. Did you ever change your mind? Or did any fears arise?
Never! In one month, we sold and stored belongings, roughly planned out our trip, closed on our house, and then flew to Europe! There was no time or energy spent on changing our minds or being fearful.
5. How did you afford to do it? Any ideas you can pass along to someone that feels like money is keeping them from making a change?
We sold our house! We choose experiences over things every single time.
6. Did others’ opinions about your choices ever affect you?
Nope! Being positive and optimistic about our life choices really makes all the difference. Plus, we learned to ignore the naysayers long ago!
7. If you could offer someone one piece of advice in regards to going for a big dream they have, what would it be?
Search your heart and soul for the kind of life you want to live, then day by day, little by little, start living it!
