Go Jump Off a Rock….really
For years I poked fun at Matt every time he had to take a business trip to Hawaii, packing his suitcase with an Aloha Shirt (those cute flower shirts men wear), a pair of slacks and a suit. “Must be a rough week,” I said. But this time we were going. Packing every swimsuit we had.
And there I found myself.
Climbing up the BlackRock cliffjump in Hawaii. My six year olds little legs climbing to the edge of the 30’ cliff in front of me. I was worried, for him, for me. Luke, Matt and Eli had already jumped. I saw his little legs shaking as I grabbed the craggy cliff with my hand. We made it to the top and he was scared. I was scared. But you know how people show up just at that the right time. The sweetest woman was up there who had jumped many times before and said, “Just close your eyes, open them up and jump.” So he did. Without a second thought. The stall in the air before he hit the water took my breath away. I went next without hesitation. We jumped. Jumped from the rock. Jumped from BlackRock.
We had already planned our next journey and that involved Matt leaving his traveling job at BlackRock (the financial company). While the trips were fun and full of adventure we were ready for something else. He told his company and put in his notice, two weeks left at BlackRock. Jumping from BlackRock. We were ready.
